Process control system software development is a generic multi-step process. It involves the following steps:
- Determining the system structure and performance, actual manufacturing status (in case of optimization), and the required output parameters. Based on this, a statement of work and a preliminary estimate are prepared and agreed upon with the customer. After the approval of the statement of work, based on the principle of price-quality trade-off, as much as possible corresponding to the tasks, the equipment is selected.
- Elaboration of the design documentation. Drawing up of circuit and connection diagrams, description of algorithms of system control and database.
- Direct software development starts with this stage. Equipment operation, information collection, and processing algorithms are developed. During the development, all the required parameters, possible tolerances and the structure of logic chains of the processes are considered.
Development and programming of software for systems based on the SIEMENS SIMATIC controller family is carried out using the basic SIMATIC STEP-7 software. Possible development of similar designs is based on the ATmega2560 microcontroller. Programming is performed in the Arduino IDE framework.
